Folks,

the AFCAD included in this package is my modification for Aerosofts EDDK scenery (FS9 file!!! - I do not know if this file works for FSX).

Since EDDK is our Home Base, I wanted to have an AFCAD that provides premium space to the STV fleet, as well as being a good representation of some of the operations typical to EDDK.

Changes done:
1. EDDK only offers 2 gate parking positions for B744s in real world. In our virtual world , we have defined Terminal 2 gates as exclusive to Stevens. Gates D1 through D9 will accept only Stevens aircraft. Since the stands can not accomodate two B744s next to eachother, I have closed the even stands (D2, D4, D6 and D8) for parking. The jetways of these stands would be used to permit boarding also from the right side of the aircraft, docking to door 1R or 2R. This provides two gates per flight and allows us to board Economy passengers from a different gate than First and Business Class passsengers. Unfortunately AES does not support this but in reality it would be possible.

Additionaly we have some stands on the appron opposite to the terminal building, mainly used for B767 service which are shared with other airlines. Another heavy capable position reserved to Stevens is stand E12 (in real life mainly used for Cargo aircraft) just in front of the newly created FEDEX distribution building which is not represented in aerosofts scenery - I hope they come up with an update. I use E12 mainly for all my MD11 cargo flights, as well as overflow when all other STV stands are occupied.

2. Two remote positions reserved for our spare aircraft.

3. DLH gates moved to concourse C as in real world.

4. The "Star Walk" (connecting the B Star with the C star) is used by GWI. By the way: Paul Schneider-Elsleben, architect of the airport when it was built in the 60's, sued the airport for errecting the Star Walk and violating his architectural copyrights.

5. Military appron parking positions for aircraft of the "Flugbereitschaft des BMVg" of the Luftwaffe. Aircraft and flightplans available on avsim.

6. Star runway technique applied so that aircraft will also land on rwy 6/24 when rwys 14/32 in use. The cross-wind runway 6 and mainly 24 is regularly used for approaches and some takeoffs at EDDK. The standard AFCAD barely sends traffic to it and by applying the Star technique, FS is forced to think it is a parallel runway to 14/32. The only drawback of this technique is that when you listen to the ATIS you will hear of runways that do not exist.

Installation:
Normally EDDK is installed in the aerosoft folder of your Flightsim folder. Make a backup of your current AFCAD or rename the file with a .bak extension and add my AFCAD to the folder. That should do...

Important: Make a backup of your file!!!

General Remarks:
Cologne is my favourite german airport in real life, as it is close to my home and offers the shortest distances from car parking to gate. No other significant german airport matches Cologne in this point. And it is perfect to spot heavy freighters! Truly MD-11 heaven!!!
Unfortunately my business travel forces me to use Dsseldorf too often...

Anyway, enjoy EDDK, also known for having been a designated emergency landing field to the Space Shuttle!
Klle Alaaf!
